The initial trilogy of Trumpet the Miracle Pup books offers an endearing story of a wolf pup and her family while they live at the Wolf Conservation Center in New York. The main characters are Trumpet, Diego and Rosa, Trumpet’s parents and Lighthawk, Trumpet’s future love interest. The staff at the conservation center and Trumpet’s parents waited patiently for the arrival of their first wolf pup. When she finally arrived, she was named Trumpet because of the loud sounds she made and she was considered a miracle wolf pup. The aforementioned wolves were endangered Mexican Gray Wolves. Diego and Rosa fell in love and felt something was missing until the arrival of Trumpet. When Trumpet was a newborn, the vet gave her a checkup. She proved to be a healthy pup. Her sight and hearing became stronger as she grew and she discovered she had a big world to explore. Other wolves began howling and Diego, Rosa and Trumpet joined in their chorus. They feared the two legged beings when they came to give Trumpet her three month checkup. She ran to her parents once they left. Trumpet finally reached the age of 1 ½ years and was considered an adult.

The staff at the conversation center removed her from her original home and brought her to a new home. A wolf by the name of Lighthawk was delivered to an area blocked by a large fence between Trumpet and him. Trumpet and Lighthawk could see each other through the fence. They started bonding with the fence serving as a protective barrier. The staff opened the large gate and let the two wolves share the same area. Trumpet found her true love. The fourth book in the series tells about how Lighthawk and Trumpet had their own wolf pup.
